Abia State Governor, Dr Alex Otti, OFR, has commended the leadership of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, led by Senator Azuta Mbata, for its purposeful leadership.
Governor Otti was speaking on Tuesday, March 3rd, when he received in his office the new leadership of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, led by the National Deputy President-General, Prince Okey Nwadinobi
The governor said that the Senator Mbata-led administration has not disappointed the people, adding that he gave his support because he knew that Senator Mbata would not disappoint.
“We are very happy with the progress that has been made so far.
“Why you got the support is because we know who you are, we know you have the capacity to do the job. And one year later, I am sure that we are not disappointed.
“So, let him know that we understand and we can see the work that he (Senator Mbata) and other members of the team are doing,” Gov. Otti stated.
The Governor said that he has noted everything and the issues that they raised.
“I took note of virtually everything you said. We are going to look at them and see where we fit in.”
Governor Otti, while assuring that he would always support the Apex Igbo socio-cultural organisation, noted his intervention in renovating the State Secretariat of Ohanaeze Ndigbo and offsetting years of arrears owed.
He congratulated them on the Ohanaeze National Secretariat that is nearing completion and assured them that he would be part of the Commissioning and applauded them for the draft constitution that will soon be approved.
The State Chief Executive, who thanked them for the visit, congratulated them on winning their elections and accepting to do the job for Ndi Igbo, as well as their achievements so far.
“And clearly what you are doing is visible. And, I want to encourage you to even do more for our people,” Gov. Otti stated.
Speaking earlier, the National President-General, Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, Senator John Azuta-Mbata, represented by the National Deputy President General, Prince Okey Nwadinobi, thanked the Governor for the role he played in bringing him to serve Ndi Igbo.
He commended Governor Alex Otti for changing the narratives in Governance and restoring the dignity of the Abia people, describing the Governor’s policies in education, health, road infrastructure, among others, as unprecedented.
“Almost every community has a health centre. Look at the road to Ohafia; we see what is happening in Aba. We can see there is progress everywhere,” Prince Okey Nwadinobi stated.
He outlined some of the programmes lined up by the Ohanaeze Ndigbo to include constituting a 7 – professorial chair committee to see to the efforts towards saving the Igbo language from going into extinction.
He thanked the Governor for his support to Ohanaeze Ndigbo and called on the Southeast Governors to strive to make the region safer and habitable to enable young Igbo entrepreneurs to bring home their businesses and be part of the region’s development trajectory.
The Deputy Governor, Engr. Ikechukwu Emetu; Chief of Staff to the Governor, Pastor Caleb Ajagba; Commissioner for Information, Prince Okey Kanu; Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Prince Uzor Nwachukwu; and Special Adviser to the Governor on Media and Publicity, Mr. Ferdinand Ekeoma, among others, were present at the visit.
