The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, has launched the “School Protection Squad” in Anambra State, aiming to bolster security and safety measures in educational institutions across the state.
The launch of this initiative which underscores the police force’s commitment to creating a secure environment for students and educators, held at the Dora Akunyili Women Development Centre in Awka, and was attended by key stakeholders, traditional rulers, school officials, and students from selected institutions.
Represented by the Assistant Inspector General of Police, Zone 13, AIG Godwin Aghaulor, Egbetokun emphasized the importance of community integration and partnership with the police to reinforce security resilience for schools.
“Our collective presence here is a testament to our commitment to the Federal Government’s agenda of prioritizing school protection across Nigeria,” he noted, and praised Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, for his dedicated support in advancing school safety initiatives.
With a focus on community collaboration, the IGP highlighted that the “School Protection Squad” has been deployed in all states and the FCT, noting that the squad is part of broader nationwide efforts to ensure safety in educational institutions and includes training for state coordinators and divisional police officers to address localized challenges effectively.
Anambra’s Commissioner of Police, CP Nnaghe Obono Itam, expressed gratitude to the IGP, noting the squad’s potential to strengthen public confidence in the police’s protective role.
Governor Soludo, represented by Deputy Governor Onyekachi Ibezim, echoed this sentiment, encouraging Anambra communities to actively participate in safeguarding educational institutions.
The event concluded with a panel discussion on enhancing security in schools, underscoring the role of community partnerships in ensuring a safe learning environment.
