Senator Hope Uzodinma, Governor of Imo State

Governor Hope Uzodimma has assured the people of Imo State that his administration is committed to establishing a stable power supply to attract more investors.

He announced plans to revive the Egbema Power Plant located in Ohaji/Egbema Local Government Area, which is expected to generate 380 MW of electricity for the entire state.

The governor conveyed this message through his Special Adviser on Public Orientation, Collins Ughala, during the 2024 Chapel Harvest of the Anglican Communion at Umuokanne, where Bishop C.C. Oparaojiaku presided.

Uzodimma emphasized that ongoing support from the community would lead to further development in the region.

Ughala highlighted the benefits that the residents of Ohaji/Egbema have already experienced under Uzodimma’s leadership, such as the establishment of the General Hospital at Umuokanne and the historic appointment of a local judge to the Imo State High Court and noted that this appointment marks the first time someone from the area has held such a position.

He also emphasized the critical role of electricity in driving meaningful development, stating, “There cannot be meaningful development if the issue of electricity is not resolved,” reiterating the governor’s determination to partner with investors, including AFREXIM Bank, to revitalize the Egbema Power Plant, thereby powering the state’s economy.

Ughala urged residents to support government initiatives rather than oppose them, stating, “You cannot pray for development while fighting against the government’s initiatives.” He called for unity, reminding citizens that the government is comprised of individuals from the community and that everyone has a role to play in fostering societal improvement.

He encouraged residents to commit to collective efforts for a better society, asserting that positive change begins with individual responsibility. “If all of us commit to doing what is right, we wouldn’t have the challenges we have now,” he said.
