The Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC) has called on its customers to upgrade their prepaid meters before November 24, 2024, due to the upcoming Token Identifier (TID) rollover.

This global exercise impacts all Standard Transfer Specification (STS)-compliant prepaid meters, making the upgrade essential to ensure continued service, reports Igbofacts.

In a statement by Emeka Ezeh, EEDC’s Head of Corporate Communications, the company highlighted that any prepaid meter not upgraded will stop accepting new credit tokens after the deadline, although it will still function until the remaining energy credits are used.

EEDC serves customers across Nigeria’s South-East region, including Anambra, Imo, Abia, Enugu, and Ebonyi states.

“EEDC has previously informed customers that STS-compliant meters must be upgraded by November 24, 2024. Otherwise, they will no longer accept new tokens,” Ezeh explained.

To facilitate the upgrade, EEDC introduced the “SuperEdge” vending system in February 2024.

While explaining that customers recharging their meters for the first time since this system was implemented will need to enter three 20-digit Key Change Tokens (KCTs) to complete the upgrade, Ezeh clarified that this upgrade is free for customers.

Customers with remaining unused tokens should load them before the upgrade, as older tokens will no longer be accepted post-upgrade, and refunds will not be available.

For convenient recharges, customers can use the “EnergyPay” option on the EEDC website or the EEDC Connect App. For further assistance, EEDC’s call center can be reached at 0208 4700 100.
