In a moving tribute at the funeral of the late Chief Dr. Emmanuel C. Iwuanyanwu, held at the Cathedral Church of St. Matthew in Atta, Ikeduru, Imo State, the Primate of the Church of Nigeria, Anglican Communion, Most Rev. Dr. Henry Ndukuba, called upon God to bless the Igbo people with another patriotic leader of Chief Iwuanyanwu’s caliber.
The Archbishop emphasized the importance of unity and solidarity among the Igbo people, urging them to recognize their vital role in Nigeria and to come together as one.
Addressing mourners gathered to honour the life and legacy of Chief Iwuanyanwu, Archbishop Ndukuba reflected on the late statesman’s impact, noting his steadfast dedication to the development of the Igbo people and Nigeria at large.
“We need a patriotic leader who will guide and represent the Igbos as Chief Iwuanyanwu did,” he stated. He praised Iwuanyanwu’s enduring support of the church and his love for church music, which led him to compile a selection of hymns for devotion.
The late Chief Iwuanyanwu, who recently led Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, was lauded for fostering unity and peace within the organization.
Archbishop Ndukuba urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to initiate a national dialogue aimed at achieving lasting peace across Nigeria, emphasizing the need to address widespread injustices that, according to him, contradict calls for peace.
Speaking on behalf of President Tinubu, Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, commended the South Eastern governors for their leadership and support in honouring Chief Iwuanyanwu.
“I want to commend my governors of the zone for pulling resources together to celebrate a man who gave his life for humanity,” Akume said, expressing the President’s hope that Chief Iwuanyanwu’s name will be cherished by Igbo people and all Nigerians.
The funeral service drew dignitaries and leaders from various sectors, all gathered to pay their final respects to the celebrated Igbo statesman who devoted his life to advancing peace, justice, and unity in Nigeria.
